Tech Cities Job Watch Q3 2017

Tech Cities Job Watch Q3 2017
With the technology sector continuously evolving, organisations are looking to attract and secure individuals with the latest skills, so that they can continue to innovate and cater to demand.

Using the latest market intelligence and Experis insights, the Tech Cities Job Watch report tracks hiring demand and salary trends across the UK on a quarterly basis. It also provides employers with a barometer of the changing workforce dynamics within the technology sector.

The report focuses on five key technology disciplines faced with the highest competition for skilled IT professionals: Big Data, Cloud, IT Security, Mobile and Web Development. Each issue also takes a closer look at a specific discipline, with Mobile and Web Development being the main focus of the Q3 2017 report.

In this quarter’s report we find that Mobile technology skills are now the industry’s most wanted. Demand for permanent staff with Mobile skills grew by nearly 40% in the past year; with Mobile roles making up 28% of all roles analysed in our report. However, increases in demand have not been reflected in remuneration, with both permanent salaries and day rates failing to keep pace with inflation.

These trends tell a story about a tech labour market undergoing change, with organisations taking a new approach to tackling the skills crisis they are facing in this area. By making use of non-IT staff – such as Citizen Developers – organisations appear to be reducing their dependence on Mobile and Web specialists, creating a knock-on effect on premiums such specialists can command.
